Managing Your Contributions
All our RESPs offer a range of contribution options, so you can choose a schedule that works with your budget and your cash flow. You can also adjust that schedule if you need to.
If you have a Flex First plan, it is easy to change the contribution amount or frequency of your plan. You can contribute bi-weekly, semi-monthly, monthly, annually or make a one-time lump-sum contribution to reach your Total Contribution Goal (TCG). Contributions can also be made on an ad hoc basis with Flex First. Contributions must be at least:
- $12.50 per bi-weekly or semi-monthly period
- $25 per month
- $300 per year
- $500 one-time lump-sum contribution.
Subsequent lump-sum contributions must be at least $50, if the contribution is towards the existing TCG, or at least $250, if the contribution is towards an increase in the TCG for your plan.
With Flex First, you may need to adjust the corresponding TCG to align with any changes that you make to your contributions. You can also put your contributions on hold for a period of time; however, you should make sure to get them started again to keep your education savings on track.
For our Family or Heritage Plans, you can change your contribution amount and frequency at any time. For example, you can change from monthly or yearly contributions to a one-time, lump-sum contribution. Changing your contribution schedule does not change the number of units in your plan, and you may need to pay an income adjustment to reach your education savings goal.
If you have the minimum balance requirements in your RESP, you can miss one or more of your scheduled contributions. However, you will need to make them up later to keep the same number of units in your plan.
